Mother's Love: A Mother's Day Tribute
May 9th 2008 04:46
Mother. Mom. Mama. Matka. Ana. Nai. Maire. Mutter. Nanay. Who knows how else they are called? In different languages, in different ways. But no matter how many different ways they are referred to, there is one single word that is common - a mother's love.
When does a mother's love really starts? When does it ends? Does it ever end at all?! Not every woman becomes a wife and not every wife becomes a mother. Being a mother is a blessing. Being given that ability and power to give life, to nurture and to guide another human being's life is such a Herculian task.
I believe a mother's love started not when she gave birth, but when she realized that a life is slowly forming inside her womb. Apart from the nourishment she delivers with the food she eats, she also shares the intimate feeling of love and longing to feel her baby's skin touch hers. She gives life, the same way as God gave her hers.
Then she gaves birth... sacrificing even her own life and safety just to bring this little angel to the world. Her desire to share more than just her heartbeat to this little being, but to bring her to the same world she is in - to experience the masterpiece of the Creator.
Being a mother doesn't stop after the cord has been cut. Some mothers are lucky enough to bring their child to their bossom and nourish their little bodies. The unfortunate ones would settle for bottle feeding. Neverthless, both are glorious deeds as every mother will wake up more than once each night to attend to their babies' needs.
It gives a mother delight to see her little ones growing up into fine and happy individuals. While she guides them to grow up into purposeful people, she also lets go of her hold on them so they can spread their wings. If there is one person who could feel a child's hurt more than the child himself, it's the mother. For her, she'd rather all the aches and pains be send her way than she sees her child' tear flow or feel his heart break.
I may be a young mother, young not in the sense of age but young because I have only been a mother for 2 years, but I think I now appreciate my own mother and all the mothers in the world after being one.
As a realization, being a mother myself, it's simply this way for me - our kids are a part of us from the start, they've lived within us, we breathe from the same lungs at one point, our bodies were nourished with the same food, we gambled our life for them and we practically lived for them evry single minute of our life. The beginning could be definite, but certainly there is no end to the love a mother can give. Each hurt, smile, tears, triumph and love her child feels, she feels the same way multiplied by two.
It is but just that we toast for those women who have been blessed by God with the delegation to carry, bring and nurture life into this world. Here's to every mother who raised a child the best way they can... cheers!!! Happy Mother's Day to All Mothers.
