Early Responsibility

It is really ever too late or too early to teach kids about responsibility?
Some people would say that we should just let kids be. Let them play to their hearts content because they are kids. Let them act the way they want to because they actually don’t know what they are doing. Or do they?
Both my husband and I believe otherwise. For us, it is never too early to teach them to be responsible in their own little ways. But, there is a point in a child’s life when it would already be too late to teach them to be one if they’ve already lost track.
As early as now, our two years old puts his (and his brother’s) soiled nappy to the bin and puts their dirty clothes in the hamper. He was first taught of this right after his first birthday. Sometimes we tell him to do it, other times I’d be surprised that he does them without being told.
Little by little teach kids to tidy up their own toys after they play. Make it a fun thing for them instead of a chore. Reward them, not with material things always (every now and then should be fine) but with praises and smiles. In this way, they wouldn’t do something just to get material stuffs that they want.
Why should they be taught about responsibility at an early age, you ask? The answer is simple. Whatever values we inculcate in our kids at the earliest age possible are carried through as they grow old. In the process, the possibility of them growing into fine and responsible individuals is bigger.
